Stéphanie Walter is one of our speakers at UX London 2024. Ahead of her workshop on day one and three — Designing adaptive reusable components and pages — we had a chat with her.

Here’s what we asked, and what Stéphanie told us:

What does inclusive design mean to you?

For me, it’s about providing a good user experience for diverse people, from different backgrounds, ages, cultures, abilities, genders, geographic location, etc.

Across your work in different industries, how have you seen the appetite for inclusive and accessible design change?

I think that it’s growing better, people slowly start to understand the benefits of having inclusive accessible products. Not only can you reach a wider audience, it usually also helps with loyalty as well. It’s a little bit more complicated in the B2B area, because, for enterprise products, at least in Europe, there are less laws. But, with companies bringing DEI (diversity equity inclusion) policies, it tends to get better as well.

What will be the main take away from your workshop: Designing adaptive reusable components and pages?

Don’t take content and strategy decisions into Figma, it’s too late, it will cost too much. Instead, start with very low fidelity version of your content, organize it, and take decisions earlier. It will help you save time. It will also help you identify re-usable components, and, again, save time.

What are your go-to sources for design inspiration and innovation?

I have tones of newsletters I’ve subscribed to. One of my favorite is Dense Discovery https://www.densediscovery.com/. It brings a mire of apps, design, books, and beautiful inspiration to my mailbox every week.

And finally, what are you currently listening to, reading or watching?

I’m currently listening to Sofi Tukker, it’s great music to concentrate while working, or just to chill while crafting.
